Something to Hold On To

There has been ALOT of death in the past few weeks. Some from old age/sickness, (RIP Mohammad Ali), but most from inexplicable/senseless violence: the LGBT shooting in Orlando just Sunday and a rising YouTube songstress Christina Grimme, who was only 22. Times like these it seems easy to turn to God with a shaking fist and demand why?

Why take away the life of someone so good or so young or so legendary?

I was reading a book called Messenger by John Michael Hileman.
It's about a man named David Chance who suddenly starts seeing messages in words, words will be highlighted around him and string together in a sentence in his mind warning him of future events. It takes him through quiet a journey eventually leading him to have to rescue the president of the US
Needless to say he feels like he's either going crazy, or that something or someone (GOD) is leading him. David struggles with believing in God's existence and (like most of us) with trusting him.

There's a part that stuck out to me though, when David starts asking why too. Frank, a friend he's talking to explains it like this "most people try to do what's right, but no one can measure up to the perfect Law of God...we are all varying degrees of bad. ...but God's will is perfect."
Even if it doesn't match up to what our will/want/desire/need is.

It's hard for me to get my head wrapped around that too, and believe me, I've sat and cried about these things that happen, worried about the violence coming closer to home but as I sit here and happen to sift through my email I come across this article: where is the messiah. Funny, because people always ask that soon as things go bad "where is your God".

But even back in Kind David's day his enemies would taunt him.
Psalm 42 vs 3-5 highlights this (NASB version)

3My tears have been my food day and night,
While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.

4These things I remember and I pour out my soul within me.
5Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence.

So, no I don't have any answers. But again I stumble on these verses

Proverbs 3 vs 5 New International Version

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

Psalms 31 vs 24
New International Version
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!
